My Favorite Villains – April 2021

These guys spoke to me. When I took a photo of this vending machine, I said, “that HAS to be a painting.” Most of the time, we only collect heroes. But our villains? They just appear randomly. They’re much harder to collect. It’s time to take back your hero landscape, but do so with caution. We’ve all seen what happens when we only casually choose our villains, like in 2016. I’d say, one of these guys would do quite nicely, but if you go off the board and collect villains on your own, please do so very, very carefully.

“In absentia lucis, Tenebrae vincunt.”

As a reminder this is a digital painting using photos only as a reference. In this piece, it’s much easier to see the brushstrokes even before you examine the details below. The video shows how the painting is built up in layers. There were many more layers than frames in this animation, I just forgot to capture them before I collapsed them. Others in this series illustrate the process in far greater detail.
